How to use this tool, and the questions players ask most.
Standard vanilla Minecraft block textures measure 16x16 pixels per face, totalling 256 pixels per surface. High-definition resource packs can scale individual block faces up to 512x512 or 1024x1024 pixels without altering in-world block coordinates.
Place your generated /setblock lines into a .mcfunction text file inside a datapack directory at data/custom/function/. In Minecraft Java Edition 1.21, execute /function custom:art in chat or via a command block to generate the build.
A standard level 0 map covers a flat grid of 128x128 blocks, requiring exactly 16384 individual blocks to fill completely. Map pixels render dynamically across 61 base color IDs when viewed on an in-game map item.
Concrete blocks such as white_concrete and black_concrete are ideal because they have flat textures with minimal color noise. Terracotta and wool blocks add surface pattern variance and introduce a natural +10% to +25% brown or grey undertone.
Converters compare image pixels against the average texture color of vanilla blocks using the CIELAB Delta E*ab formula. This perceptual color-difference metric determines the closest visual match across all 1.21 survival blocks, which is what this Pixel Art & Block Palette tool calculates.
