How to use this tool, and the questions players ask most.
Use the command /give @p stick[custom_model_data=1] 1 in version 1.20.5 or newer. In older versions prior to 1.20.5, use the NBT syntax /give @p stick{CustomModelData:1} 1.
Minecraft 1.21.4 replaces model predicates with item definition files located in assets/minecraft/items/. These JSON files use the minecraft:custom_model_data select property to map specific integer indices or string identifiers directly to model paths.
Custom model data changes only the item model held in hand or viewed in inventories, not the worn armor layer on a player entity. Modifying worn armor textures requires custom armor trim assets in assets/minecraft/textures/trims/ or third-party client mods.
Custom model data fails if the integer in your custom_model_data component does not match the predicate threshold or if your pack.mcmeta specifies an incompatible pack_format version. Check the game log for JSON parse errors in your item file.
Custom model data is an item component that instructs the game client to render an alternate 3D model or texture based on a numerical tag. The Custom Model & Item Component Tools generate the required override JSON configurations automatically for any base item.
