Map markers, banners, and player/item-frame icons drawn on top of the map are not rendered — only the base terrain color grid. Your file is read entirely in your browser and never uploaded anywhere.

map cover?A standard scale level 0 map covers an area of 128x128 blocks, totaling 16,384 blocks. Each pixel on the map corresponds to exactly one block coordinate in the world.
map art?Minecraft Java Edition features 61 base map color IDs, resulting in 244 total color shades when factoring in the three staircasing brightness modifiers. Base blocks like cobblestone, oak_planks, and gold_block represent distinct color indices.
map art height change pixel brightness?A pixel becomes darker if the block directly north is at a higher Y-level, and brighter if the north block is lower. Staircasing terrain across Y coordinates creates three shading variants for every base material color.
map art files stored?Maps are saved inside your world directory as individual NBT files named map_0.dat within the data subfolder. The Map Art Extractor decodes these .dat files directly into PNG images without altering world data.
map using commands?You can obtain a specific filled map using the command /give @p filled_map[map_id=0] 1 in Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.5 and newer. In earlier releases, run /give @p filled_map{map:0} 1 to target that specific ID.
