Custom Painting & Disc Adder

Add brand-new paintings and music discs to Minecraft Java. Registered as new content, so every vanilla one stays. Builds both packs and the /give commands.

Paintings 0

No paintings yet. Any image works — it gets scaled to the block size you pick.

    Music discs 0

No discs yet. Minecraft only plays .ogg (Vorbis) — an mp3 renamed to .ogg will fail silently.

How the two packs fit together

      1. The datapack registers the content: a painting_variant or jukebox_song entry per item. It goes in <world>/datapacks/.
      2. The resource pack carries what you see and hear — the painting textures and the .ogg files. It goes in .minecraft/resourcepacks/ and must be enabled.
      3. Both are needed. With only the datapack the painting registers but renders as missing texture; with only the resource pack nothing is registered at all.
      4. Nothing is overwritten. Every vanilla painting and disc stays exactly where it was — yours are added alongside.

Images and audio are packed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and Bedrock is not supported — painting_variant and jukebox_song are Java registries.

Quick Guides — How to Use This Tool

How to get custom paintings in Minecraft Java?

Use the command /give @p painting[painting/variant="namespace:id"] in Minecraft 1.21 or newer to receive the specific variant directly. In previous releases, players had to place paintings repeatedly against support blocks to cycle through default art styles.

Can you add custom paintings without replacing vanilla ones?

Yes, Minecraft 1.21 allows adding standalone paintings by defining new JSON files inside data/namespace/painting_variant/. All 30 original vanilla paintings remain untouched, allowing custom textures to exist alongside default art without mod loaders.

How to make custom paintings in Minecraft Bedrock?

Bedrock Edition requires editing the texture atlas located at textures/painting/paintings_kristoffer_zetterstrand.png inside a custom resource pack. Unlike Java Edition, Bedrock cannot register distinct painting IDs and must overwrite vanilla art slots.

How to add custom paintings to a Minecraft server?

Install the datapack into the world/datapacks/ directory and define the resource pack download link inside the server.properties file using the resource-pack= field. Players downloading the pack on connection will see the custom artwork.

What image size is needed for custom Minecraft paintings?

Each painting dimension must be a multiple of 16 pixels, such as 32x16 for a 2x1 block frame or 64x64 for 4x4 blocks. The Custom Painting & Disc Adder writes these block measurements to the painting definition file.
