Mojang does not permit uploading custom cape files directly to your Minecraft profile. Official Java Edition capes are awarded exclusively through account migrations or special events such as the 15th Anniversary celebration, so custom designs require third-party mods.
Install a client mod such as OptiFine or the Fabric mod Capes to render custom designs. These mods read a standard 64×32 pixel .png file linked to your player UUID and display it to other users running the same mod.
Bedrock? On Bedrock Edition for Windows, you can add custom cape files by creating a custom skin pack containing a valid manifest.json and skins.json. Custom capes loaded through local packs remain visible only to you on multiplayer servers.
Elytra in Minecraft?Wearing any cape automatically overrides the default elytra.png item texture with a modified version of your cape design. Minecraft maps specific regions of the 64×32 texture onto the twin wings whenever an Elytra is equipped in the chestplate slot.
cape?Minecraft capes require an 8-bit RGBA format saved as a .png file with dimensions of exactly 64×32 pixels. You can design and export this layout directly using Cape Maker before loading it into your preferred cape mod.
