Combat Damage Calculators

Work out exactly what a hit does: melee damage with attack cooldown, mace smash by fall height, spear charge attacks, armour reduction and fall damage.

Damage taken at every incoming hit

Safe height for every amount of damage you can survive

Hit points are shown as the game counts them: 2 HP = 1 heart. Every formula on this page is listed in How the numbers are worked out so you can check it against your own game.

How much damage does a netherite sword do in Minecraft?

A netherite sword has 8 HP of base attack damage in Java Edition and 9 HP in Bedrock Edition. In Java that is only the full figure when the attack cooldown has finished — swing early and the damage drops towards 20% of it.

What is the attack cooldown formula in Minecraft?

The cooldown lasts T = 20 / attack_speed ticks. The damage multiplier is 0.2 + ((t + 0.5) / T)² × 0.8, clamped between 0.2 and 1, where t is the ticks since your last swing. Attack cooldown is Java Edition only.

How much damage does a mace do from a high fall?

The mace deals 6 HP normally. A smash adds 4 HP for each of the first three blocks fallen, 2 HP for each of the next five, and 1 HP for every block after that — so a fall of 8 blocks adds 22 HP before a critical hit is counted.

What is the maximum armour damage reduction in Minecraft?

Armour points alone cap at 80%, and enchantment protection caps separately at 20 enchantment points, which is another 80%. Breach reduces the armour half by 15% per level.

How many blocks can you fall before taking damage?

Three. Damage is max(0, floor((height − 3) × multiplier)), so a four-block fall is 1 HP. Hay bales and honey blocks set the multiplier to 0.2, a bed halves the distance, and slime, water, cobwebs and sweet berry bushes remove the damage entirely.

Does Feather Falling stack with Protection for fall damage?

Yes. Feather Falling is worth 3 enchantment points per level and Protection 1 per level, added across all four pieces and capped at 20. Each point is 4% off the damage, so the cap is 80%.

Do critical hits work in both editions?

Both, but the order differs. Java multiplies by 1.5 before enchantment damage is added and rounds down; Bedrock applies it after. Java also needs the attack cooldown at 84.8% or higher.
